
She said these things on Wednesday (April 16) morning while addressing as the chief guest at the central level awareness workshop of the 'Infrastructure Development Project (1st Phase) for Enhancing the Capacity and Fish Production of Government Fish Farms' under the Department of Fisheries, held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Auditorium in the capital.
Addressing the officials of the Fisheries and Livestock Department at the workshop, the Fisheries and Livestock Advisor said, "Many are working unplannedly while commercially farming fish. Fisheries officials must continue their sincere efforts to make them aware and trained." She called upon everyone to come forward to increase the production of planned aquaculture.
The Fisheries Advisor said, "Native species of fish are unique in taste and nutritional value. Native fish are delicious animal protein for almost all people, young and old. And no other country has so many species of fish. We ourselves must protect the nearly extinct fish."
Mentioning the contributions of fisheries officers and fish farmers to the country, she said, "All projects should be made ideal and of international standard. And for this, the government is ready to provide all kinds of cooperation."
She said, "At one time, ninety percent of the fish in the country were native. The amount is decreasing day by day. We must be conscious about conserving native fish." At the same time, the Fisheries Advisor believes that everyone should work together in a coordinated manner to increase the production of farmed fish.
The Director General of the Department of Fisheries, Dr. Md. Abdur Rouf, presided over the event, which also included speeches by Tofazzal Hossain, Secretary (Routine Charge) of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, and Syeda Nowara Jahan, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. Senior officials of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, officials of the Department of Fisheries, officials of the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, and officials of the Public Works Department were present at the time.
